DIY Kits:
Why I don't sell them
Your health matters!
First, I want to let you know, that I care about you. This is why I created this page.
Many other resin artists offer DIY resin kits to non-professionals for making resin jewelry at home. But they don't inform you about possible health hazards when working with epoxy resin.
Please be aware: Epoxy resin is a chemical!
It is a two-component material consisting of epoxy resin and hardener. When mixed, these two parts create a chemical reaction. When handled wrong and with no safety measurements, your health can be at risk!
One nasty chemical in there is called Bisphenol A. You might know its other name: BPA. This is a pretty bad chemical which can lead to serious health problems. Most epoxy resins contain Bisphenol A. Here is a science based article about it: Health Risks Of Bisphenol A
During the combination of the two compounds, toxic fumes will appear. Trust me, you better not breath that in!
The liquid compounds can be a skin irritant. Skin contact can lead to allergic reactions such as severe burns. I warn you. Please don't google these pictures. It can get pretty bad.
For more information follow this link to an independent website by New Zealand Dermatological Society.
But I don't want to discourage you from trying it out. It is safe when handled right.
So here are some tips how to safely work with epoxy resin:
• Know your epoxy resin! Read the labels! Don't get a DIY kit, when you don't know the resin brand in there! Don't get a DIY kit with a resin not in its original bottle!
• Work in a separate work space away from your loved ones (family, kids, pets etc.)!
• Work in a well ventilated area!
• Wear nitrile rubber or nitrile butatoluene gloves!
• Wear a mask!
• Protect your eyes (use a safety goggle)!
• Change your clothes after you are done, or wear a full body chemical protective suit!
